Creating Agentic Assessment Environments: the PhD perspective
The notion of students as partners or co-producers in the learning and assessment process as a response to more constructivist approaches to the curriculum and its delivery have gained some momentum, with positive outcomes in terms of enhancing the student experience of assessment and feedback (e.g., Andrews et al, 2018; Kilgour et al, 2020; Jones et al., 2017). Learning environments that provide opportunities for student agency in assessment are therefore key to the development of effective learning and assessment.
Due to the student-led thesis and student-supervisor partnership within doctoral studies programmes, exploring PhD student agency can enrich our understanding of environments that foster agency in assessment (Nguyen & Robertson, 2022).
This session will feature insights on agency in doctoral partnerships from current and former PhD students, and consider the importance of a holistic approach to PhD supervision that engages students fully in the work of departments and more widely in university activities.
