CHMLS Education Hub: Writing content-valid MCQs

Assessment of, and for, learning are integral to our roles as educators. There are many ways in which learning and student progression may be assessed.

This session is about how we can write high-quality test items, in a single-best-answer / multiple choice format, which may possess the following qualities

  • Content validity
  • Application of knowledge versus knowledge-recall
  • That test items do not confuse the learner by creating authentic distractors
  • Content reliability

The session will be delivered by Prof Olwyn Westwood and Natalie Parnis
